Eclectic and elegant, charming and charismatic: Calatea is the armchair designed by Cristina Celestino in 2017 for Pianca, a Venetian company specializing in furnishing accessories and systems for living.
The seat represents the synthesis of a formal research that investigates the out-of-scale proportions of primitive and simple elements such as leaves. The organic volumes and the richness of the details were inspired by the extraordinary peculiarities of the homonymous plant native to South America. The matrix of the project is the dialogue between botany and ergonomics, resolved through an enveloping and comfortable design.

La seduta rappresenta la sintesi di una ricerca formale che indaga le proporzioni fuori scala di elementi primitivi e semplici come le foglie. I volumi organici e la ricchezza dei dettagli sono stati ispirati dalle straordinarie peculiarità dell’omonima pianta originaria del Sud America. Matrice del progetto è il dialogo tra botanica ed ergonomia, risolto attraverso un design avvolgente e confortevole.
